This is an excellent video to watch. It shows that the current dropout rate in the United States is 28%, but with the SPARK program this rate drops to a mere 2%. Mentorship provides the means of showing kids how their education is applied. Of course, by changing how you teach and providing content for the knowledge would definitely help a lot too.
Just like adults, kids are always asking what is in it for them? Why is this important? If you can provide the kids with the actual application of the knowledge, then you make the learning personal and it can get them involved.
