What a morning and weekend...

Well, this has been an interesting weekend. Juan is still procrastinating and not completing his reading assignments. He is a smart kid, but boy does he like to mimic me on how I used to be at his age.  He still has 2 hours and 23 minutes of reading to complete, which isn't hard for him to do.  We were hoping he would have completed this so that he would be able to play with his friends, but alas, he has chosen to sit in his room until he finishes his homework rather than to play.  Let's hope that he gets all of his homework done before this Saturday when we have our family dinner.  If he doesn't, he will be allowed out to eat and then have to return to his room to finish his homework vice play with his siblings, should they arrive this weekend.

Now for Jesus, while he is also a smart kid, he is very stubborn. He is trying to control things again.  Examples are, he is refusing to eat; which is ok, as we will simply save the food for the next meal for him. Of course he threw a tantrum about this, so he was sent to his room until he calmed himself down. Unfortunately this escalated as Jesus refused to listen to anything Colleen would say, which eventually resulted in having to turn off the electricity to his room so as to prevent him from hurting himself. Of course he still had a night light as the light to the bathroom still worked and this was directly across from his bedroom door.  I ended up having to go into his room to help him calm down by rubbing his back. Of course, I also reminded him that he needs to listen to Colleen as both her and I mean exactly what we say.   Jesus eventually fell asleep after he calmed down, which helped matters. We were then able to turn the power back on in the room, but at least this episode of him trying to hurt himself via trying to break the light switch in his room. I have a feeling that we may have to baby proof his room.  At his age I shouldn't have to, but with his recent actions we may have to do so. Oh well, we are hoping that by being consistent in our actions, tone and everything, Jesus will eventually grow out of this.  When talking to my mother, she commented that we were the same way when we were a bit younger than Jesus is now.  In many ways, Jesus is showing actions that are typical when someone is two or three, but considering his background, this delay isn't anything new or abnormal. We just need to be consistent and stable and we should be able to move him past this stage.  At least we are hoping he will move on before we loose our our hair (all puns intentionally meant).

Well, it is now almost time to leave to take Jesus to Head Start.  I am hoping that today will be a better day for Jesus.
